WHO IS JON?
My name is Jonathan Pursley, I was born in March of 1981 in North Georgia. We moved to Florida when I was 4yrs old. I was your average child that was involved in sports, music, and friends. But we never attended church regularly as a family. I often visited my grandparents in North Georgia during the summers when I was younger, which is where I was introduced to God but never really thought much of it as a child.
Later in life when I graduated High School I moved back to North Georgia in 1999. Shortly after moving back I met my future wife Jana. We dated for four years then became married in 2003 and resided in Fort Oglethorpe Georgia. Life was uneventful until our first born son, Brady was born in April 2007. We were elbow deep in sleep deprivation, we had no idea the effort it took to raise a child. We both agreed we wanted to raise our children in church, so we began to attend church regularly when Brady was a year old. After attending church for a year I started playing drums in the worship band.
In July of 2010 we had our second son, Jax whom was such a blessing to our family. Life stayed continually busy with work, kids, and church. We have always felt so blessed even in the crazy times of life. So we made the big decision to bring my wife home from working to be with our kids. We felt like it was a way to save money and focus more on our family’s needs.
The month my wife started working from home we found out she was pregnant with baby #3! What a joy and a blessing this baby girl would be. In the meantime during her pregnancy she was sent to bedrest at 30wks and my back began to get the best of me.
Shortly after Briella’s birth in April 2013 I had back surgery and had to stay at home for several months. It was a dark time in our life financially, emotionally and physically which made us rely on our faith in God more than ever. He was building our character among many others things at the time. I was in the sheet metal union at this time and was waiting on the call to go back to work but in the meantime I gave back to my church through my “gift” or “talent” and played drums or helped anyway I could.
After being involved in the church for nearly 5yrs and giving back to the community my wife began to question how much is too much to be involved. She felt it somewhat took away from our family experience of being involved in a church as a family. I always brushed it off as “I am doing this to bring others to God, not for me”, which I would soon realize was pure denial and pride setting in my heart. Around that same time I started working a new job and was challenged by a coworker about the bible and what I believed about salvation and music, so I started digging deep into the Bible.
This all led to where we are today. My wife is still at home with our three kids, one of which has special needs. We are continually digging into the bible and are hungry for the word of God. We are passionate about bringing others to the Gospel and living life in accordance to the will of God in our deepest effort. We pray you are as well.
